Fire Alarm System

An automatic fire alarm system is designed to detect the unwanted presence of fire by monitoring environmental changes associated with combustion. In general, a fire alarm system is classified as either automatically actuated, manually actuated, or both. Automatic fire alarm systems are intended to notify the building occupants to evacuate in the event of a fire or other emergency, report the event to an off-premises location in order to summon emergency services, and to prepare the structure and associated systems to control the spread of fire and smoke.

Types of Fire Alarm Systems

All Fire Alarm Systems essentially operate on the same principle. If a detector detects smoke or heat or someone operates a break glass unit (manual break point), then alarm sounders operate to warn others in the building that there may be a fire and to evacuate.

Conventional Fire Alarm System

In a Conventional Fire Alarm System, a number of call points and detectors are wired to the Fire Alarm Control Panel in Zones. A Zone is a circuit and typically one would wire a circuit per floor or fire compartment. The Fire Alarm Control Panel has a number of Zone Lamps. The reason for having Zones is to give a rough idea as to where a fire has occurred. This is important for the fire brigade and of course for the building management.

Addressable Fire Alaram Systems

Addressable Fire Alarm Systems are often known as Intelligent Fire Alarm Systems. There are several different types of Analogue Systems available which are determined by the type of protocol which they use. The bulk of standard Analogue Detectors available are fairly stupid as the Detectors can only give output signals representing the value of detected phenomena. It is left up to the Control Unit to decide whether there is a fire, fault, pre-alarm or other.

Wireless Fire Alarm System

Wireless fire alarm systems are an effective alternative to traditional wired fire alarm systems for all applications. They utilize secure, licensed-free radio communications to interconnect the sensors and devices (smoke detectors, call-points, etc.) with the controllers. It is a simple concept, which provides many unique benefits and is a full analogue addressable fire detection system without the need for cable.

Burglar Alarm/Intrusion Alarm

Burglar (or intrusion), alarms are systems designed to detect unauthorized entry into a building or area. They consist of an array of sensors, a control panel and alerting system, and interconnections. Sensors detect intruders by many methods such as monitoring door and window contacts, by passive infrared motion detectors, ultrasound, vibration, electric or magnetic fields, or microwaves. Sensors may be directly wired to a control panel that provides sensor power, or may communicate wirelessly.

Sprinklers Systems

A well-designed wet riser/hydrant system is the backbone of fire protection systems for modern buildings and is mandated by the local Fire Brigade, insurance authorities and other regulatory bodies. A typical building normally has two or more shafts, which travel from the lowest level of the building to its terrace. Such shafts are normally used to carry the piping for the wet-riser systems. Hydrant outlets are provided on every floor so that the entire floor area of the building is adequately covered. Outlets are provided in the form of double-outlet landing valves. Apart from a canvas hose for the use of fire-fighting personnel in the event.

Fire Hydrant

A fire hydrant is an active fire protection measure, and a source of water provided in most urban, suburban and rural areas with municipal water service to enable fire-fighters to tap into the municipal water supply to assist in extinguishing a fire. Buildings near a hydrant may qualify for an insurance discount since fire-fighters should be able to more rapidly extinguish a fire on the insured property.

Smoke Detector

A smoke detector is a device that detects smoke, typically as an indicator of fire. Commercial, industrial, and mass residential devices issue a signal to a fire alarm system, while household detectors, known as smoke alarms, generally issue a local audible and/or visual alarm from the detector itself.
Types of Smoke Detectors

  • Photo Electronic
  • Ionization

1. Photo electronic ones are better at detecting smoldering fires, which create lots of smoke, but little actual fire at first. They’re your best bet for most places.

2. Ionization detectors work best for rapidly spreading fires in combustible materials, where there are lots of flames, but little smoke. If you’re going to have one in your kitchen, go with an ionization model.

Automatic Fire Extinguisher

The most damaging fires usually occur in unoccupied areas or at times when no person is around-night time and holidays. Moreover in a big plant, it is not possible to keep an eye at all places all the time. Therefore, an automatic installation is the only answer to round the clock fire protection. Moreover, modular system is simple to erect without involving costly and unsightly pipework. Automatic fire extinguishers can be provided with powder and gas based extinguishing agents. Multipurpose ABC powder based extinguisher is the answer to the safety of go downs having combustible materials whereas gas based extinguisher is required for server rooms, electrical panel rooms, eatable material stores etc.
